I’m a crochet pattern “designer“. No, I would never consider myself a designer:P BUT, I did hook up my Ravelry account to my ‘patterns’, which is fun! Now I have to get around to finally posting that Owl I made so long ago!

So, I’m participating in thing-a-day, and one of the participants has some great videos on youtube. I really like this one. Looks like it’s animation and stop motion, and it’s really quite stunning for a class project. Sometimes, things like that make me wish I had pursued a more artistic degree… But I love my job, so I will just live vicariously through other people!

So when I moved to SF, I had to leave my precious computer behind; it couldn’t very well fit into a suit case! I still lament the fact that it had Photoshop and Fireworks on it that I got through school. I’m not in school anymore, so I can’t get copies of the software anymore. But in reality, I pretty much only used those programs for basic re-sizing and cropping, so there was no need for such powerful pieces of software.

So now, I needed something to edit my pictures before posting them. But what? There doesn’t seem to be a huge selection for safe, free desktop editing programs. I did a quick Google search and I found THE solution for me:

Picnik!

It’s all web based, so no downloading. It’s free. It can save directly to Flickr. It’s easy. It’s awesome.

I’m very excited to see this magazine grow, as I feel that loom and frame knitting are poorly under represented on the internet. The new Crochet Today magazine looks like something I could sink my teeth into. I regularly browse the crochet magazines at B&N, but I have yet to ever buy one. I am seriously considering getting a subscription, but I think it might be too embarrassing to have it shipped to my house. I really don’t want to get razzed by 7 college students!

Soapbox has some great tips on how to crochet with difficult yarns (read: homespun!). While I crochet by feel mostly, those who are more visual crocheter will really appreciate this tip!

I have very fond memories of this game called acrophobia. My father and I used to play it together for hours. A few years ago (like 5!) it was owned by the same people that made the popular "You don't know Jack" series. The point of the game was to think of a sentence to match the acronym. Hilarity usually ensued. Eventually, the game just kind of faded away. I missed it dearly, and googled it from time to time with no results. However, someone decided to make the game again!

You can play acrophobia here for free. I'm on it every once in a while as craftypants. I don't have time for online games but sometimes I can't help but give in to the nostalgia;)

While not exactly craft related, many people do like to listen to music while crafting. Pandora can help you discover more of the music that you'd like. You enter your favorite songs and artists, and Pandora plays songs like it. It's all so easy to use, and I get to hear bands I might never have heard otherwise. Plus, it's FREE! I listen to all my mp3's on random anyways, so having random songs is perfect.
