Mrrrooow!

August 16th, 2009

*Drum roll please*

Here is my first knit project! I didn’t post her, because I had yet to figure out how I wanted to do her face. I was sorting though my ‘craft closet’ (it is a wardrobe with tools, extra linens and craft supplies) and I saw that I had pink, black-brown and light grey felting wool, and some needles for needle felting. I decided to see if I could needle felt onto acrylic, and it worked!!

I am so incredibly happy how this pattern came out. So much cuteness for so little effort!

Morton “Patchy” Minibear

July 18th, 2009

Morton

Morton lost his eye in a freak embroidery accident, so DON’T CALL HIM A PIRATE!! (It is a sensitive subject for him).

I used this pattern. I couldn’t get his right eye to look decent, and I tried so many times he was left with a mangled mess where his eye should be. Finally, I said "screw it", and crocheted him an eye patch with the embroidery thread. I quite like the way he turned out:)

Long Time No See

Crocheted Bone, originally uploaded by craftypants.

I’ve been terrible, and haven’t been crafting as much as I would want. Having a “real life” job takes some getting used to!

I did however make this wee crocheted doggie bone for my co-worker’s dog, Romeo. Here is the “recipe” since it is really just a teensy tiny modification of another pattern.

Crocheted Dog Bone
worsted weight yarn
F or G hook depending on yarn weight

  1. Crochet Pepika’s 3D Heart, but stop at rnd 9
  2. Continue crocheting in a spiral for about 10 rows
  3. Crochet another 3D heart, also stopping at rnd 9
  4. Stuff both pieces and sew together!

That’s it! Alternatively, you can crochet both halves for 5 rows after rnd 9, so the seam is in the middle. Your choice.

Romeo is a teeny timy dog, so he couldn’t chew through this thing. However, I would supervise larger dogs to ensure they can’t get to the polyfil inside.

Thanks to much to Pepika for posting the original heart pattern.

Here’s some in action pictures:

Amigurumi Crochet Pattern Roundup

May 12th, 2007

More great finds! When I started this blog, I was doing it solely for my own use. I wanted a place to keep track of free patterns I was interested in making, and where I could make notes about the pattern. Since then, I have found so many amazing patterns, there is no way I can make them all! But I will continue keeping track of them, so I (and you!) have a place to look when I have a hook, some yarn, but no pattern:)

On to the patterns:

Easter Crafts Roundup

April 3rd, 2007

Easter is less than a week away, so you better get your crafting-self in gear if you want to make some easter inspired crafts! Here are some cuties to make to celebrate the Easter holiday!

My roommates and I are making a big easter dinner next Sunday. All of then expect for me are vegetarians, so it should be interesting to see what they make! I’ve never really been a big fan of meat, so I do buy a lot of veggie burgers and such, so we’ll see. Maybe they’ll succeed in converting me fully!

Felt Cat Toy Critters Pattern

February 26th, 2007

Felt Cat toys

Right now I’m working on sewing the mouse from this pattern of Felt Cat Toy Critters. Never mind that usually I hate hand sewing with a passion… Once, I didn’t wear my nice wool coat in 10 degree weather   just because I refused to sew on the buttons myself. Luckily I had a thinner back-up coat.

I guess I just felt the need to do something meditative and not on the computer. I can barely crochet because my wrists are killing me. I think that is from one part crocheting and two parts programming non-stop. I’m also working on a hat, an amigurumi bear, and I just finished a purse.  I barely have time to eat, so I have no idea why I keep starting all these new projects! Hopefully I can muster up some energy to finish then and post some pictures! For now, enjoy this wonderful pattern!
