About Me
Well, I’m a full grown adult now! In June 2007 I graduated from college with a degree in Computer Science, and a minor in Math. I then spent the summer in France attempting to learn French. Finally, I donated nearly all my belongings (including all my yarn!!!) and took a one-way plane trip to San Francisco. I am now living in North Beach, celebrating life, and working at a great software company.
This is my little escape from my job as a software developer (which I do love very much). At the end of the day, I need to do something tactile, colorful, and away from the computer (for the most part). I have many other hobbies (snowboarding, video games, dancing, reading, home remodeling [whoo, power tools!], etc) but this is a slice of my life that I enjoy writing about. I hope that you will respect that and keep nasty comments to yourself.
When I moved to San Francisco, I had to give away every single craft supply I had, all except for my crochet hooks. I love crochet because it is portable, and flexible and instantly gratifying. Crochet is whatever you want it to be, and I am very thankful I learned those three years ago!
I first learned to crochet back during Christmas of 2005. My sister-in-law used to make the cutest flowers, and I wanted her to make so many she decided to teach me. She bought me some crochet books, and gave me an IOU for lessons as my present. She demonstrated all the basic stitches before I went back to school. And then I promptly forget them!
One year later, I was stressed out from finals, and decide to pick up my hook one more, and gave it a whirl. My first crocheted object was an amigurumi koala bear. For about six months after that, all I knew how to do was crochet in the round!
I’ve since always relied on my trusty hook to relieve stress, and what I call ‘computer neck’. Some days I dream of a time where I could lay in the sun and craft all day long. Although, I’m not sure how easy it’ll be to crochet with my hands slathered in 70 SPF sunscreen!

wow, you are insanely beautiful.
just… wow
Love your blog. I printed the pattern for the slouchy hat; I am going to attempt making it to match a spring time scarf I made my daughter.
I am looking forward to reading the rest of your blog and future blogs.
I am self-taught. Resigned from my job as a nurse paralegal due to being dx with lupus and IC and need take up some new hobbies so crochet is one of them….I also volunteer my time as an advocate for persons in need….I am presently assisting a lawyer with a SSD case in Califorina….!
Ahem, this is another vote for you being insanely beautiful. And having a useful blog that gave me the pattern I was looking for, but DAMN you are beautiful. Thank you for posting pictures.
From your Sept. 13, 2007 photos of the puffs hat, I’d say you used to live in Fox Plaza, on Market St.?
I’d recognize that hilariously funny black and white checker and the small white kitchen counter anywhere…
If I’m wrong, oops! But if I’m right, how funny, we lived in the same building at the same time!
Your blog is very inspirational, now I want to go home and crochet yet another hat!
Hey I loved the slouchy hat and I need more patterns and can’t find any I love like yours!! please email me @ Krystle06@yahoo.com with any advice where to find or send me some! I love the slouchy look and all my friends get so jealous of my hats so I have to have a variety to share so we aren’t all wearing the same hat!
I started crocheting blankets and I wanted to learn how to do hats and that is when I stumbled across the pattern for your puff slouchy hat. It is excatly what I was looking for! I decided to look at your “about me” section and I am actually moving to San Francisco next week! I have never been there and would love to hear about where I can buy some good yarn! Thank you!
love the blog and the projects you do! can’t wait to actually find time to try some of them!
cheers! and thanks for the inspiration!
Hi,
I was wondering if you knew any knit patterns for a slouchy beanie. Apparently its hard to find any. The beanie would be for my fiancee too. My mother would make for her. Apparently a lot of slouchy beanies are crochet and not knit. I hope you can help in anyway or point me in the right direction. You can directly email too.
Thanks for your time.
Erik
hey how about some cunning fingerless gloves? steampunk inspired for extra credit.
and you are still retardedly gorgeous
Man is the net cool or what ?
I’m sitting at my desk looking for a slouchy hat and I see this amazing girl (retardedly gorgeous i hear)
and she talks about the simple things in her life instead of how she turned down what most likely were modeling contracts.

Love, love, love your stuff!! Found the baggy beanie through googling on the internet. I have been looking for so long, and crocheting so many hats. But I was never satisfied. This one I have already made two of, this is the ultimate Christmas-present.
Also love your crocheted blanket – and the small animals. And the jewellery
I hope you will keep on inspiring people around you with your personality – it really shines all the way to snowy Norway!!

Hi! Not sure what Amigurumi means, couldn’t find in dictionary, assume it means making small animals? Love your slouch hat patterns, can’t wait to make one for my daughter-an art teacher! I knit and crochet and love to make pine-needle baskets. We have lots of long-leaf pine-needles here. At my church we meet once a month to make chemo-hats,lap blankets, and baby blankets for hospital and nursing homes. I am like this crazy person doing something all the time. I have truly met a lot of nice people because of my hand crafts. Love your work and glad your job is going well.
I saw your pretty puff hat on Craftster and visite your blog bu chance. Thank you for sharing the pattern. I’ll try to crochet 1 or 2 as Xmas present for my friends. Thank you very much.
I red your story just now. I like your way do crocheting. So does me. It’s a great pleasure after work.
Nice meeting you!
I’m new to crocheting, and trying to follow your pattern for the puffy slouchy hat,
I became lost after 2: ch 3 then I dont get it, can any one help me understand? I would really like to try this hat out, I used to make afgans and was wanted to start with a hat. Help!
I’ve crocheted since I was 10, and in girl scouts. I just picked it back up, that and knitting and I’ve been attempting to make the cute pretty puffs hat, but currently to no avail. I keep trying to visualize it in my mind. I am not as good at reading patterns.. any help would be amazing.
Miss your posts! I made your pretty puffs hat several months ago for a friend, and she’s gotten lots of ocmpliments on it. I plan on making one for myself, now that the holiday crafting is over. Best to you and yours in 2010.
Love you’re site, and I’m sure you hear it all the time, but you are very beautiful! I’ve been teaching myself to knit (just got scarves down pat), and I really wanted to make a cute slouchy hat. After seeing that most patterns called for crochet, I started practicing and messing around a bit. Then my mom got me a book on amigurumi this christmas and I decided that I was ready to attempt the hat. Thanks so much for the pattern!!!
I love the slouchy hat! I’ve made two!
we go to a pub quiz every thursday and i bring my crocheting – I was making the hat last night, my friends were well impressed with it!
cathy: if you come back… i’ll try to explain. so, you’ve made the ring with 12 dc, right? so, you chain 3 then put yarn over your hook, insert hook into the same stitch that your chain is poking out of – to the left of the chain, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through the remaining two loops – you’re left with a single loop on your hook. then just go around and do a dc into each stitch from the first round.
does this make sense?
I like your blog. But I am wondering why there isn’t any new entries. Guess, you are busy with some new patterns.
I want to thank you for your free pattern, Pretty Puff Slouchy Hat, and for your reference to the pattern by Dot. As a new crocheter I was inspired and used both the patterns as a reference to hone my skills and learned a lot in the process. So far I’ve made 4 versions as a beret (rather than a slouchy) in different colors,& my most recent was done as a spiral. I feel very indebted to you both, you’ve been my invisible teachers. I think you are being very humble, modest & gracious about your contribution to that pattern.Unlike the critics, I think you are creative, like a jazz musician, elaborating on a theme, not plagiarizing at all. I’m grateful.
I have to say I admire your work! I also crotchet and knit as stress relief, took both up in college! And lastly, as others have said, you are really beautiful! You should be a face model for those skin care commercials!
